Sowing Time – Lotus seeds don’t require a hibernation period. As long as the water temperature stays above 12°C, you can plant them in any season. With the right balance of warmth and sunlight, it typically takes around 50 to 60 days from sowing to flowering. However, in spring and autumn, the blooming process may take slightly longer, around 60 to 80 days.
How to Plant:
Seed Treatment: The shell of a lotus seed is tough and dense, so it needs to be carefully scraped or nicked before soaking. Take care not to damage the seed’s embryo.
Important: Use sandpaper or a sharp tool to gently cut or file the seed, as shown below, before sowing or immersing it in water. This step is crucial for successful germination.
